Just a little FYI, studies have shown that boots actually do not offer anything in the way of support, only protection from striking. When I barrel raced, I use the SMBs, they are not my favorites now, but I do not barrel race anymore. Had I know then what I know now, I would take them off between runs, they cause too much heat in the leg and make it easier to injure the soft tissue. They are also bulky and heavy to the horse, especially if he sweats on them or runs through water.
But as far as protection, I like that they cover the entire fetlock, as I think especially in gaming where there are so many sharp turns, it's easier for a horse to knock himself than in most other sports! I do eventing, dressage and jumpers now, I have tried many brush boots and XC boots, but always go back to my trusty Woof brush boots, they are lower profile than most (my mare is narrow in the front, so that's important!), but I am not sure that type of boot would be the best protection for your needs. It is something to think about for sure :)
