I have been doing reining training with my boy, and I am getting to the point where I may need to use protective boots.
I have seen video and photos of high level reining horses with boots and without.
At shows, boots are not approved tack in most classes, but I believe they are acceptable in reining.
Why do some ride reining horses with boots and some without?
Should I use them? In training, showing, or both?
What kind should I use? Skid boots (leather/other)? Prof. Choice type, whole leg boots? Front? Back? Both? Polo Wraps?
I don't want to discourage him from sliding by burning his fetlocks - does this actually happen? Would the boots (skid style) cause more harm than good?
I am really torn here about what to do, and could really use some direction. :)
