Pure Neatsfoot Oil

Can anyone else not stand the sickening smell of Neatsfoot oil? I'm talking the pure stuff not the compound. I just can't use it. Makes me sick. Am I the only one?

Ray Holes saddle butter is hands down the best I have ever used! If I can remember correctly, I thought pure neatsfoot oil weakened stitching....???

The compound has been linked to it but that was with cotton thread. Saddles have been made with nylon thread for over 20 years now so it is a non-issue.

I hate the smell. And the stickiness. I tried it once and gave up.

From what I was told once the one with additives, not the pure one. BUT I never did a real research on it (as I had no need).

Saddle thread used to be waxed linen which is why oiling too close to the thread could cause the thread to deteriorate. Polyester thread which is more impervious to water and UV, or nylon has been in use for at least 40 years. You could try Lexol Conditioner.

I have been using lexol and belvoir. Only thing is, I prefer a saddle cleaner that isnt sticky. I like my saddle slippery :P
