Quality Saddle Brands to look for

I'm trying to find a saddle for my QH/Arab, he's been fitted, so I know what will work. My husband is of the opinion that I should just order a $2,000 Bob Marshall, but frankly we do NOT have that kind of money so I'm not sure where he thinks that would come from. I've been reading, researching, etc. and learning that some of the older Circle Y and Billy Cook are some of the better ones. I've sat in some Billy Cooks at the saddle shop and love them but they are a little out of my price range.

I'm using a Simco now and I hate it. It's so uncomfortable that I feel like I've been riding my bike for 50 miles after using it for 30 minutes.

What are some good name brands of quality saddles (other than those I've already listed above) and what are some brands we should steer clear of? We're just shopping used and locally right now.

A lot of my friends like the Abetta saddles - at least the synthetic ones. They seem to be well made and comfortable for both horse and rider. There are several models to choose from and they are reasonably priced.

If you want a good leather saddle, check out Southern Trails - they have some really good ones.

If a saddle with a 7 inch gullet and FQH bars would fit your guy, you might look into Corriente. They make very nice working quality saddles but they only come in one tree size. I got my ranch saddle custom made from them for less than $700 and I love it.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

I second Abetta, if you like synthetic saddles. They're generally well made, comfortable, light weight and a little easier on the wallet depending on the model you order. I only have good things to say about them, an abetta condura was my saddle while I was working at a trail farm; and you can only imagine how many hours I had to spend in that saddle every day

If you go under synthetic saddles>Abetta, there are many there to give you an idea of what you could choose from.
