Quarter sheets

Can you tell me what they are used for and why?

I have two types of Quartersheets - and they are used primarily for colder weather riding.

The kind that goes under the saddle:

Is used for hacking primarily. I dislike this one personally, that's why I have mine for sale.

Now the one I love and used allot over the winter/colder weather is this one:

I like this one because - it has more than one use. It keeps me warm, and my horses hind quarters warm. I use it for trail riding - keeps the cold wind off my legs and my horse.

I also use it when I warm up in the indoor during the winter months. It helps warm up my horses hind end, and it keeps my legs warm too :) Then when we are warmed up, I'll take it off for jumping sessions.

Then when we are done our session, I will toss it back on for the cool off.

Also, during the winter schooing hunter/jumper shows - I will put it on over my hoss during warm up, and then take it off for our rounds, and toss it back on his back end after our rounds - keeps his muscles warm.

Let me tell you, we could have used one of these for our first show this season. We typically have pretty mild winters here but this first show we had, in April, was brutal. Out of nowhere came this freaking cold rain, wind, etc. It was miserable. I had waivered over whether or not to buy a quarter sheet months before and decided that I would probably never need one. Boy was I wrong. It's at the top of my list of things I need now.

I love mine - I have one like the 2nd one MIeventer put up and I use it in winter when Im riding in the rain (If I didnt ride in the rain then would never get out in our winter at the mo)

As my girl isnt clipped she takes ages to dry so I prefer to keep her as dry as possible.

I also use it at shows in winter inbetween classes to keep her warm....

Wouldnt be without one :)

I have a lovely polar fleece one that I actually had a friend make me, from online. It has the "hole" so I can actually opt to either put it around my saddle, under the flaps, and velcro in front, ot just velcro it around my waist and keep us both warm.

And let me tell you, in -40 Canadian winter with a prissy Arab who doesn't think she needs a winter coat, I wouldn't be caught without one! She's blanketed when it gets into the bitter cold, so it'd be pretty mean to strip her naked when I ride seeing as we have no indoor, and the wind on the prairies is like a knife.
