questions about brands

this is just popping into my mind everytime i look at online stores or actual stores. i usually buy my tack and all horse related items in France.
so i think i need some people that have been dealing with other brands here what they think.
what is your favorite brand ? mostly for tack : bridle saddle, pads, protection, helmets ect
or riding apparel : breeches, boots..
which brand did you have bad experience with?

i just think its time for me to learn about what is available to me here now. its always good to have second opinions

oh and anybody can tell me, what is the purpose of figure 8 noseband?
i think in France, expecially jumpers, use it just for style, and good looking.

thanks everyone !

I have alot of Dublin things. My jodphur boots and helmet look really nice and stylish but they also get the job done well. However I don't like the Dublin breeches, even though they are comfy, the hem stitching on the bottom of my pants has fallen appart countless times and is a pain to stitch up. They kinda fall apart really.

As for my grooming kit and bags that's all Roma and they come in a nice variety of colours too.

The great thing about Equestrian brands is the amount that are out there from small, medium and large companies. You should be able to find a brand that's a fit for your style and budget at the level of quality you want. And the great thing about the Internet is that you're not restricted by what's available in your local market!

The comment I really want to add is if the equipment is safety based don't try and cut corners for the sake of the looks or loyalty to a badge. Buy the best you can for the purpose it's going to be used.

Happy Shopping!

I agree, my helmet may have well saved my life in January when I had a bad fall and hit my head. I had a bad concussion and wasn't right again for over two weeks not to mention the gravel rash scars I scored from the trail on my back. That hospital trip stripped me of my dignity for a while lol

what kind of helmet did u have?

no i would obviously put protection before the look ! there are no questions there.
but how do you know which brand is safer, or more secure? like helmets. you can have cheaper brand, doesnt mean the quality is not good, but how do you know if it will save your life?
French people are really into the brand GPA when it comes to helmet, and jumpers. never owned one, way out of my price range, but is it worth putting 500 $ ? unless it is really secure and will save your life?

for breeches i love tuff rider and probably will end up buying only these, but it is nice to have other people's opinion, or even to try.

i posted this because my new job was requiring me to wear black boots when i have 2 pairs of brown ones
and it was really hard to make a choice because i dont want to spend if its not gonna last. i d rather put little bit more and make sure its good quality. but its hard when you dont know the brand here, reviews online depends on the experiences people had.

what about bridle? some are padded, other not. different type of leather,ect.. im planning on getting a new one and i want to make sure it wont end up breaking on me

i know saddle the most important is that it fits your horse and yourself and that it is comfortable for both.but still, there are names that are more reliable than others. is it because the quality is better or people just had better experience?

thanks for sharing !!

For saddles, alamo's are the most comfortable in my opinion for western.
Leg boots I dont care about the brand iv been buying the marlene mcrae ones off her website though. My pad is an impact gel thick. My sliding boots down have a brand, and my boots are justins. :] Head stalls and stuff like that I just pick up from where ever no brands.

Alrighty, I'm going to basically go through my tack room :P

Helmet: I LOVE Charels Owen's! They arn't overly pricy, and they're comfortable and they stand up to wear and tear. I have the Hampton Hat for Dressage and the Skull Cap for jumping.

Everyday riding clothes: Jules and Kerrits are my two top brands.

Boots: ARIAT! I LOVEEEEE Ariats! I have heard of people's zippers busting but it hasn't happened to me yet, and my padock boots are so abused and are holding up great to anything I throw at them! I also have a pair of Dublin River boots and ADORE them! For riding on a whim or walking XC or walking around shows, they're the best!

Crops: Fleck is my favorite

Saddles: Black Country are my favorite, with Stubben a close second. BC will make the padding of the saddle conform to your specific horse's back so its definatly my top choice.

Bridles: Bobby's tack! They are GREAT! The padding is there just to make it more comfy for the horse, and to look nice. I can't find many a bridle without padding now.

Horse Boots: Woof Wear boots are at the top of my list. The quality is superb.

Tack in general: Nunn Finner. You can get their stuff thorugh Bit Of Britain, and it's great! I have the 5-point breastplate and love it to death!

i think stubben is german, and has some great dressage saddle? its on my list when i ll be looking for a dressage saddle

They do all types of english saddles. Jumping, dressage, endurance, everything. I have the Eloquence Dressage saddle and it is HEVEN! I also rode in their monoflap dressage saddle and it's amazing too. I have never sat in a Stubben dressage saddle, only their jumping.

Bobby's tack is VERY nice. I have their jumping birdle and I'm contemplating getting their dressage bridle.
