I am looking to get a nice set of show reins for my birthday from hubby, but that means I have to actually find them, and have it all set up for him to order.
I have a cheapy set of Ferrull tack: breast plate, headstall, reins - I think like $70 for everything - really crummy leather/silver. I want a really good quality set of everything, but cannot get it all at once (knowing what the nice stuff costs), so figure, I will replace 1 peice at a time...starting with reins....
I really like the silver ferrull, but am not dead set on them. I would like something with a little weight, so that it will droop nicely. I looked at ebay, and nothing really turned up except Billy Royal stuff, which I like, but is honestly a bit more than I want to spend.
Are Romel or split reins okay? Is the difference preference, or functional?
If anyone can steer me toward online vendors, sites, catalogues, or other sources with a nice set of reins, I would appreciate it. Please feel free to share specific sugguestions about what would look best with my horse and saddle, as I am trying to build my long term set of tack :)
Here is the saddle:
Most of you probably know what my boy looks like by now, but in case you don't, here is the horse:
