Resale value of Wintec vs. Bates saddles?

I found a used Bates saddle locally that is in pretty good condition (but still a little more than i wanted to spend). For the same price i could buy a brand new Wintec and have it shipped to me...which i might consider since they are basically on the same tree anyways.

With all other things being relatively equal, would the Bates hold up its resale value better than the Wintec. If, say, in a year I decide to sell my saddle, I'm thinking that i could still get almost the same price that i paid for the Bates while the Wintec would loose a couple hundred dollars, right?

I'd think Bates will hold the value much better. I've seen used Wintecs and they go cheap.

Bates most definately has the better resale value. Wintecs are synthetic, and leather will usually always win, depending on what the perspective buyer is looking for - but I too have seen many wintecs for sale, and they go pretty cheap in compareson to what they were bought brand new for.

A few years from now the used Bates will probably still be worth what you are paying for it now (maybe more) while the Wintec will be worth less then 1/2 of your purchase price.

Woouldnt have a wintec if you paid me to take it and I know alot of people think the same. A Bates leather saddle in good condition will not loose its value much at all.
I paid £250 for a jeffries leather saddle 2nd hand 6 years ago. I've just sold it for close on £350!! the bates will be the same if it is well looked after

I bought a brand new Bates last year for $1400. Didn't fit me well and was able to get $1100 for it. Also sold an older Bates from 2003 in good condition for $800. It was also around $1400 new way back when. Yes, they do hold their value. Bates also usually come with free girth, stirrup leathers, gullet sets, etc so you end up with an additional $300 or so in good free stuff.
