Cool! How much rope did you need? I wanted to make my own, and this one website said you needed like 25' of it, and with rope prices, it's cheaper to buy a ready-made one!
The red halter in my pics of Blu is homemade. Atually it only took me about an hour to get what I wanted with a little help finding out directions with out leader. (It was at 4-H Horse Boot Camp - greatest camp ever)
I left it out in the rain once and it bled so now its not as bright and it shrunk. btw...any ideas to get it back to normal size for Blu's head?
Thanks guys! It took three hours because my mom wanted to tie one too so not only was I fixing my mistakes but hers too! Hehe. I only had to use 20ft of rope, my horse has a smaller arabian head. We bought one of those packs of 50ft feet of rope for like 3 bucks and its great rope too, its soft and pliable but it also can hold its shape which is nice. It want to make more but we only have two horses hehe. Thanks. Here are some pictures. I hope he likes his new halter, even though its got pink on it 8)
EDIT- The toughest think was figuring out the double overhand knot and keeping your measurements even x.x other than that its a breeze

NOooo kidding! I started a tiny welsh/shetland cross last year that was hardly halter broke so I thought a rope halter would be a great idea, esp since I couldn't find anything that fit her. My friend and I had this great idea to spend our Friday night watching horse movies and figuring out how to make rope halters. It turned into watching horse movies and trying to figure out the double overhand knot night... :) I did finally end up with a great halter, which yes does need like 25 feet of rope (where does it all go?!) and cost like, $2. I still use it though and it's custom made for this pony!
Where do you find your rope? I want some non-prickley stuff, and when I went to the hardware store, the stuff was around $1/foot...!! I would LOVE to make one of these myself, so any hints would be wonderful!
