Hi everyone!

I'm new around here, but have visited these forums for quite some time. I am looking for thoughts and opinions about a saddle I may purchase.

It is a Candyman brand. I can't find too much about these saddles, but what I have read seemed quite positive.

This saddle is supposedly in good shape. It has some cosmetic flaws and some cracking in the leather. The billets, tree, and flocking are said to be in good shape.

It would cost me around 70 bucks for this saddle.

Wondering what you guys think? Pictures at link.

The brand is unfamiliar to be. It appears to be a close contact not an a/p. Have you hooked the saddle on your hip and tried to pull the cantle toward it? Any movement in the tree indicates it is broken and unfixable.

Thanks for your opinion. The other saddle I'm looking at is a Jeffries, would that be better?

I don't know much about those saddles, but in general, I avoid cracking in the leather unless it is very minimal and not in a load bearing area. This is usually dry rot, which is not repairable (other than replacing the leather part). If it's only on the billets or stirrup leathers, those are at least fairly easy to replace, though make sure you consider the cost of this. Dry rotted parts must be replaced before a saddle is safe to use.
