saddle advice

I have a hilson treeless saddle(western) that I bought as I was leasing a halflinger and was trying out a few different horses and it was suggested to get this saddle. I did not know much then and know a bit more now(but still not a ton)
I do believe I would like a new saddle.
The horse I am hoping to get is a twh, small, high withers, short back, high butt.
Any suggestions?

If the horse is butt high you saddle, any saddle, will try to crawl up on his shoulders which will make him sore. If you are really intent on this horse you will need to use either a crupper which encircles the top of his tail to anchor the saddle or mule breeching, a harness that encircles the hips.

Honestly, Gaited horses are notoriously more difficult to fit and if he is built downhill (high butt) then it will be trickier. Wait until you get the horse, then have a professional saddle fitter out, get all his measurements and start trying saddles on him so you can learn what works and what doesn't - then buy.

Excellent idea! That is what I will do! For now, I think my treeless will be ok until I get one that fits him well. Any thoughts on a saddle pad?
