Saddle fit

So I found a county stabilizer (used) in my size. Its a medium narrow tree. I emailed the owner, but she doesn't think it would fit my horse ( he is a 15 year old arabian/quarter cross) I guess his withers are pretty normal, not high or anything and his back is pretty average to. He's not a very big guy, can't be anymore than 15 hh, probably even lower than that. The saddle lady says that MN trees are usually for horses with high withers. What do you guys think? Also, which is a better all around saddle for dressage and jumping the conquest or the stabilizer?

Well first of all, what constitutes a medium or narrow tree will vary by maker. You need to take measurements of your horse and then measurements of the saddle to even begin. My horse has very high withers but takes a 7.25 in gullet which is typically considered a wide - extra wide. The height of withers has nothing to do with gullet or tree size, just the type of saddle.

Arabs typically have a broad, flat back and require a wider saddle with little rock. A qtr horse can vary greatly, but I have never seen a narrow one, doesn't mean they don't exist though. Height of the horse also has nothing to do with saddle fit.

There are some threads here about how to measure for saddle fit. I suggest reading them and possibly watching some youtube videos on it. English saddles are hard to fit.
