Hi
I own a ovely qh mare.
I used to have Bob's saddle but it looks like it began to be small for her.
I know I'll need a full quarter saddle.
I can have a Circle-Y or a Tex-Tan. Both from flexible series.
Any suggestions? Any expirience with either one?
Thanks
Zahi
The only flex tree saddle we have is a Big Horn. Its my husbands saddle and he loves it. We've used it on both of our horses who are very different in shape and it fit them both well.
I'm not sure which is better the Tex-tan or the Circle Y. I have heard Circle Y has gone a little downhill on the quality though.
I liked tex tan more when I tried it, but it's just matter of choice. It really depends on your horse. I can't use flex tree, because my paint has high withers and saddle didn't fit her.
Flex-Tree's are not designed for people who weigh more than180# too. I have hear of a lot of people getting a flex tree and it pinching their horse because of that weight limit.
Thanks for your comments.
Anyhow, I tryied one Circle-Y and it left a merkings on her shoulders too,
Will try the Tex-Tan next.
What do you think about three-less saddles?
He-he... There was lots of discussions recently on treeless. I personally just tried to sit in used one once (not on horse, but on "dummy" horse in store). It felt very comfortable. However you need a special --expensive-- pad for such saddles for correct weight distribution and all. Also I was told by person who had this experience that treeless is not for bucking horse. Personally I think the one with tree distributes weight better than treeless, which is important if the rider is quite heavy.
doczahi, why you necessarily need flex-tree (or treeless)? There are plenty of tree saddles, which are nice to ride for both - horse and rider. Just curious...
When I was shopping for the saddle I went to all local tack stores around with pics and measurements of my horses and talked to the sales persons asking for opinions. Do you have any local stores around you could try and may be bring your horse to try it there?
Hm-m-m.... My paint has high withers, so I was looking for the saddle high enough at the pommel. I ended up with Alamo pleasure saddle, which has high pommel and gives plenty of space for the withers. Another saddle, which would fit her there was Billy Cook's (I also liked it a lot). Tex Tan was too low for her. Same with Abetta (which didn't fit even my lower withers qh). If you horse has high withers I don't think flex tree would work for her. People I know has ottb also with very high withers. I know they got Big Horn.
Saddle shopping is real pain in neck, so good luck!
