The Abetta has a 7" Gullet (per manf. specs.), I think your Horse is now a 6.75"

The built up pads can equalize a one size difference on occasion, since your Horse is growing and so close, I think soon the Abetta will fit well with the average saddle pad.
Will she need a different saddle when fully grown at about 6 years old? the million dollar question

Thanks for that tidbit! Should I measure the barrel saddle at a different spot to get the gullet width? (See pic above)

The Abetta saddle, I believe, is a wider than usual, draft saddle. I swear it measured 8" at the same spot as I measured the barrel saddle. Do you think that I could fold a blanket and add a little to the front of it to raise it up for now? Or will too much padding be bad too? Thanks again for your input!

Hmmm.... if you have the Abetta Draft model, they do make one which is advertised as 8" but as it is an import Tree hard to say who measured it and how it translates to real US measurements

One has to be mindful when adding an extra blanket to raise the front. Because the bars are on an angle the extra padding may be good at the top of the bars but cause the lower edge to be too tight.

Just a note here, I had to find a saddle with Full QH bars for my wide shouldered gelding, and even thought the gullet would measure 7 3/4" and seem to look right, it was the flare in the skirt that would dictate the fit. I learned this after talking to a few custom saddle makers (yes I got to the point of getting a custom saddle!) and they said that every single maker has a different tree that they work from and there is no 'standard' size of tree or tree that everyone works from, that it's just a crapshoot, full QH bars from one maker may be vastly different from another......just my two cents;)

Yeah, I've heard that before too. I have chiro coming on Tues and a trainer that said she'd help me check fit. Hopefully, I will be able to get a clearer answer.

Saddlebag....I honestly thinnk the Abetta may just be too big for her. I was simply trying it to see the difference. My percheron is EXTREMELY wide. The bar angle itself actually looks good, just too wide. I'll look again later.

I see saddle shopping in my future.

I'll take more pics later and remeasure, just to see what I'm actually working with.

Here are some pictures today with the draft Abetta saddle. It is obviously too wide, The pad is a built up pad in the front.

Ouch.... without that special pad, it is horrible, the angles are way off.

Do you have a Saddle with a Full-QH Bar you can borrow to try on for fit?

Is the saddle in the first picture a Billy Cook? I love the hug-fit it gives in front!
