Having cleaned well over a hundred saddles, I can vouch for the water/vinegar solution. Too much oil weakens the leather. Use a sponge or soft cloth to wipe the solution on. Do this out in the sunshine. The sun and fresh air will help kill the mold. We've had rain almost daily and mould has not been an issue for my tack but it has for others.

OP, are you not worried about whether or not this mold is toxic? o.o That would be my first worry... (Ok, second, after the health of my saddle xD)
