saddle and pads

I just got my horse a TB gelding Enzo about three weeks ago. I have been riding him with a thick nice fleece saddle pad that fits the sadle perfectly and also a black quilted saddle pad from Dover. Im wondering if the black Saddle pad is even needed since I have the fleece one under the saddle and the black one is thin anyways and doesnt seem to offer any extra protection?

I ask cause I have noticed that other people who have pads similar to my black one ride with that and just a saddle with no fleece pad.
Or I ve seen people riding with just the saddle and fleece pad with no other padding.

Am I using to much?

I would use the fleece pad alone as long as your saddle fits properly and there is no pinching anywhere. If I was going to go out for a long trail ride I might use both pads. I like the fleece because of the wicking action it should produce on your horse's back.
