Question Saddle pads vs. blankets -- ?

What is the reasoning of having to wear a saddle pad if your saddle fits good? Would a saddle blanket work fine? I am talking about western saddles... Would this blanket be thick enough?; Mayatex Ramrod Doubleweave Saddle Blanket - Horse.com Its thicker than regular blankets like this; Mayatex Ranger Hogan Saddle Blanket - Horse.com .

I use as thin a pad/blanket as I can get away with. If the saddle fits really well you don't need anything thick. Actually the thicker your pad is the farther you are from your horse. Some thin blanket are made to cover a pad for showing. Those might not be suitable for single use.

Unlike an English or Australian saddle, the tree of a Western saddle is very close to the horse. There needs to be some material between the tree and your horse to absorb the concussion of riding - thus the saddle pad.

Pad thickness depends on what you are doing. A long tail ride or ranch work needs a thicker pad then W/T for 1/2 an hour in a ring.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm just explaining why I'm right.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

It's not always what you say but what they hear.
