saddle question

I bought a 4yr old quarterhorse geldig. ( birthday April 6th). I am not sure if he will fill out a bit more or not.

My problem is every saddle that I use on him does not seem to fit properly. He has a short back and all the saddles seem a bit wide without a builtup pad. How important is the sweat pattern? Some saddles bridge and the last one i used he was dry just behind the withers and a little from there onto the front part of his back.

I do not have a saddle that fits him and have been using others saddles. I need to purchase one for him as I don't want to keep borrowing, at least until I find or have one made for him. Any advice would be appreciated.
Also the saddles seem to slip back on him, he looks to have good conformation (he is foundation) and looks like an easy fit. thank you in advance! Or am I being too obsessed as I know I can be....

Sorry I can't really help with the western saddles , being an english saddler.
The only thing I would say is that as your horse is only 4 at the moment he hasn't full developed yet so I wouldn't go buying a new saddle .

Pictures would be an enormous help. We would also need to know the bar size on the saddles you have been trying.

To answer your other questions, "Yes" sweat marks are an important indicator on how your saddle is effecting the fit. Depending on how your new horse was fed and conditioned and how he will be fed and conditioned by you, he may change his physique. Personally, I would not invest in a new saddle until you see how that goes unless it is so far wrong that it causes problems.

My current horse was 11 when I got him last year and after ~6 months, his weight and muscle improved so much that the saddle that worked for him at first no longer worked.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm just explaining why I'm right.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

It's not always what you say but what they hear.
