    Saddle Questions...

    Hello everyone!
I'm new to this forum and also new to riding. I am looking around for an english saddle to buy because the one my instructor has for my lesson horse is too small for me. But I was wondering what your opinions are and need some advice. Since I am a beginner, I don't want to spend a lot on a saddle, so I've been looking for used and searching online as well.
Here are the questions: Does the color of the saddle matter in shows? Does the saddle type matter in English Pleasure vs. Dressage? In other words, can I buy a dressage saddle and use it for both? Or is that against the rules? (Remember, we're talking about beginner shows.)
Thanks everyone! I love this forum... I've been learning a lot! ;)

You will want to buy an all purpose saddle as a beginner. If you want something less expensive then the used idea is the right way to go.

If I can't find an all-purpose, can I use a dressage saddle in events other than dressage? Or no?

Don't worry, you WILL find an all-purpose saddle. They are probably the most common english saddle. Haha But no, I do not think you can use a dressage saddle unless you are doing a dressage show. If you cannot find an all-purpose saddle then I would suggest a close contact saddle. If you are looking for a used saddle, I would recommend going to craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums. Good luck!

I've found a couple saddles on Ebay for good prices and you might ask around to see if there is a used/consignment tack store in your area. We have a couple within a 20 min. Drive of us and they have tons of used saddles at good prices. You might want to get one with a medium tree as you don't know what horse you'll be riding so that gives you more flexibility.
