I'm looking for a close contact/jumping saddle that will fit this horse. Any recommendation on which saddle brands to try? Here are a few pictures of him: Iphone Photos 6-29 485.jpg Iphone Photos 6-29 496.jpg photo (2).jpg
I'd like to stay at $550 or less, and I'm looking at used saddles online. I just need something that he's comfortable in long enough for me to save up money to bring in a saddle fitter and buy a nicer saddle.
I sent tracings to Trumbull Mt. They didn't have anything for me, but they did say he measures a medium-wide, and could use a deeper front panel and "perhaps wither gussets". My horse has gained a little weight since then. He does seem to be u-shaped in the back, but has typical thoroughbred withers.
I have a Thinline pad that I'd like to use because it's nice for MY back. I bring this up because if I need to shim, I can.
I can't tell if he needs more curved panels or straight. I tried a Jeffries on him, but it seemed to rock a bit. I tried a friend's Pessoa on him, and the back of it seemed to dig into his almost-loin area. I'm not sure if that was because the panels were too straight, or if it was because it was a medium tree, 18" saddle. I slide my hand under the panels, but they all feel the same to me :/
Obviously I'm not an expert on saddle fit, and I could really use the Horse Forum's help! Some saddles I've been looking at online are:
Old Crosby PDN (but they all seem too narrow in the channel width)
A new Crosby (Millers?)
New-ish Harry Dabbs
And some others that I can't remember at the moment. I really don't know what direction to go with, as they're all so different fit-wise.
P.S. If we want to complicate it further, I could really use a 16.5" seat and forward flap!
