Saddle size

I am in the market for a new ( to me) saddle. I'm done barrel racing, and want to get a roper. My old barrel saddle I have was a 14 1/2 and fit me perfect. The one I have now is a 15. I've been having a hard time finding a 14 1/2 in my price range. I found a 14 Hereford roper that I love but its a 14". I don't know anyone who has a 14 that I could sit in and see how it fits. What are.your thoughts about the size difference in a barrel and a roper? Do you think a 14 would work or should I wait for a 14 1/2 to pop up?

With roping saddles you do typically want a smaller seat size. This is because in roping you want to say in the front of your saddle the majority of the time and a smaller seat will help you with this. This being said I think going down a 1/2 size shouldn't be a problem for you.

However, if you aren't actually going to be roping and you just want this style of saddle, then you may want to consider looking more for that 4 1/2 or a 15 for better comfort

I do work cows but I doubt I will actually rope one lol. There is always the possibility, but its not going to be a constant thing

If you think 1/2" really would make a difference, I would sit in a few brands.

Reason is; not every brand will feel the same, the Tree is measured before leather, padding, etc. is applied.

Saddle Makers use various thicknesses of padding and leather, plus if it is a wood tree, the tree itself will vary 1/4".

Personally a 1/2" in seat size is no big deal to me, depends on if you are trying a Saddle out before or after a Thanksgiving dinner
