saddle slipping

So lately my saddle just wont stop slipping. I've been recommended two different things and not sure which is the better.
1. He wears a martingale and I've been told to tie the martingale to the saddle and it will hold it is place. Will this work? I'm not very sure about it.
2. A breastplate to hold the saddle correctly. Would you be able to use a breastplate with a horse that has a martingale?




This photo it was in an ok spot but usually it slips even further back. I had to get off him yesterday because the blue pad was touchin his flank and he was getting upset about it. And I do put the saddle up high onn the wither and tighten the girth. It just always slips back

You can use a combined thing.... You can use a breastplate and a martingale at the same time. Here is Hickstead (RIP) being shown in a running martingale and breastplate.

You really need to have your saddle professionally fitted to your horse as you may need the gullet changed to fit your horse's shape to prevent the slipping. Do you have a saddle fitter in your area??

You might want to check your saddle fit! Have you lately? Your horse might have gotten a little bigger or smaller than last time you checked you might need to get a new gullet size or a new saddle. If your horse is younger you should expect your saddle fit to not be perfect because your horse is still growing! Also you can buy a breastplate that has a martingale attachment, I prefer the ones like this one... but that's just me!

Also I forgot to say that it might be your pads fault! If it is you can but a non slip pad like this Non-Slip Pad this one is by professionals choice. It could really help! But it might also be that your horse is bloating a bit when you tighten the girth so you might have to tighten the girth then lounge your horse at a trot then tighten it right away then that might fix your problem I really hope I helped!

I agree with advice to have your saddle re-fitted and try a non-slip saddle pad as well. A slipping saddle is typically not a particularly well fitting saddle and its better (in the long run) to figure out the cause of the problem rather than trying to figure out a quick band-aid fix for it.
