saddle slipping

What can I use to help keep the saddle from slipping? Dandy is so round that even with the saddle tightened as tight as I can possibly get it without squeezing the stuffing out of her it still slips. I have no clue what to do about it. It's all right if I mount from a rock or something but sometimes I just can't get to a rock. What ya'll think?

Hmmm well if when you ride your with other people, if you can't get to a rock ask someone else to put weight of the stirrup on the other side to stop it slipping.

What type of cinch do you use?

Grab some mane and pull yourself up mostly with your arm as opposed to pushing off with your leg.

Does she hold her breath when you tighten the cinch? I usually tighten it up...then either walk a few steps, or lift up the horse's front legs (one at a time) and then tighten again.

Do/check all the above ^^^

Also is your saddle fit your horses properly? If it doesn't that also could be why it is slipping.

I tight and then walk my horse for couple mins and tight 2nd time. It gives another goo inch to tight.

Hold her mane and the back of the saddle (do NOT hold the front/horn) and jump in as fast as you can.

Have you tried a breastcollar?

Or a no slip pad?

Oh, don't you love the stocky horses? I have this problem alot, since my mare doesn't have withers to hold the saddle on. Try either of the following: 1) double padding - for some reason, double padding seems to help a bit. 2) non-slip gel like pad. You can get them through country supply, state line, ect.

Good luck!

Double-padding might work. ;)
Also, check if the saddle is fitting properly.
