Saddle Suggestions

I've recently come to the conclusion that my saddle doesn't fit my mare. She always bites at the air when I tighten the girth, there are dry spots on the pad around her wither/shoulder area when I untack, she's very reluctant to move forward and pick up her back, and she's very hollow.
I thought I just didn't know what I was doing training-wise, but now I'm thinking we'd have gotten farther in her training had her saddle fit better.

Money is VERY tight, so I can't afford a saddle fitter or a very expensive saddle. Right now I have an HDR Advantage CC with a medium tree. I guess I'm just looking for suggestions on saddles and how to fit a saddle as best as I can by myself.
Thank you :)

For learning some basics about saddle fitting, go through the 9 Schleese videos.

then get a flexi-curve. You can get them at fabric stores. Take a good wither-tracing about 2" behind your horse's scapula. This is about where the tree points will sit. Draw your tracing on a piece of cardboard. Now do another tracing along the spine, about an inch or so to the side of of the center of the spine. This is will give the shape the saddles panels need to have along the length of the saddle. Trace this to cardboard as well. Cut out your tracings.

Take your tracings to the used saddle-shop with you. Make sure the saddle you take home has tree points who's angle matches your wither-tracing. Lay your cardboard for the back tracing along the panels and make sure the shape matches as well. Try to make sure you can take it on a trial. If buying online, a lot of stores will have a template for you to fill out, or you can fax them your tracings. Find a consignment store locally or online, or Craigslist.
