dee,
Billy Cook Maker saddles are still well made. The first were made in Greenville and now in OK. The Billy Cook Saddles made in Greenville now are Longhorn Saddles.

To everyone: For an up and coming saddle I love the Rocking R's well made and a great value.

In my trailer are a Rocking R (husband's) and El Dorado (daughter's show saddle) a Double J Lynn McKenzie Special and my Cowboy Tack saddle. All extremely well made and all will last a lifetime.

I don't believe a well made saddle ever uses mediocre leather. Why would you spend money on a saddle that is well made that has leather on it that will not hold up? As for me I spend my $ on saddles that are well made using all top quality products, from the tree to the leather.

If you can't afford a quality new saddle find a quality used. Much better choice than buying a poor quality new.

Fifty, great post :)
