Earlier today it was becoming very overcast and there was a slight breeze that picked up. It was perfect riding weather. Until the dust storm came and it started sprinkling  The dust storm blew over pretty quickly, but was sprinkling for a while. I still really wanted to go ride, but I'm honestly not sure if the rain would damage the saddle? Being in Arizona I don't run into this situation very often. So is the rain going to damage leather saddles? I'm sure pouring rain isn't very good for them, but like sprinkling rain?
No, it doesn't, as long as you let the saddle dry out in a ventilated area, and not next to a heater or something like that. After it's dry or close to it, give it an conditioning with your favorite leather oil or conditioner, many brands to choose from. Only thing that rain will do to a saddle is darken the leather if you have a light colored saddle. I have a light show saddle I only use for showing and some lessons, if I am using it during an outdoor show and it starts to rain, I switch it for my darker schooling saddle.
If we stopped riding out of fear of dampening our tack, we'd never go out. It rains here so much we forget what blue skies look like.
