Samshield Helmets...

Hi There,

I have been looking around for a new helmet for the hunter/equitation ring. I have an Antares helmet which is amazing, but it is shiny and a little bit sparkly so it's not something that would be my first choice for the judged arenas. I have been looking at the Samshield helmets and I really love the look of them! I have tried one on and they are very comfortable. Now that show season approaches I need a helmet. *My head gets hot when ride so I need the ventilation. I was wondering if anyone has had experiences with this helmet. Any advice or comments would be helpful.*
I have attached a link of what I would like mine to look like. The link is from Dover Saddlery's website and the helmet's options in that picture are Black Shell, Black lizard skin middle, and black matte trim/logo. Those are the options I would like to purchase and I was wondering if this is fine for hunter/equitation.
Thanks so much.*

Where do you live and what kind of temperatures do you get?

Samshield is still new to the american people, it is starting to be more popular now, it has just been approved for USA in november 2010 I believe. It was already approved in europe, and lots of my friends in France replace their GPA for samshield. So I can bet you it is a really nice, safe helmet.
But if your looking for something that wont get too hot, I am not 100% sure, France does not get that hot so my friends can't really give me opinions on that point.
I am also helmet shopping but me is not for showing, just schooling and I live in Florida. So I went for IRH elite extreme, I heard lots of good reviews on them keeping your head cool, plus you can remove the inside and wash it if you happen to sweat or get it dirty. Which is a big plus for me. They're really comfortable to me, but it depends on the shape of your head too.

I love the GPA and they are really nice, safe, and some models keep your head cool, but I can't afford 500$ in a helmet. ( the IRH by the way is $100)
I will probably buy either a GPA or samshield when I start showing and keep my IRH just for schooling. I am more going towards GPA just because so many people have tried them and they are safe and really well known. I am still looking for someone who use samshield in a hot state just to make sure they are really cool.
I hear judges here are picky on what kind of helmet you wear?

Overall, if you are looking for comfort, go with what feels more comfortable. Make sure if you go with samshield, they will let you use it, I read on another forum some judges did not want samshield helmets.
If you are looking for the cooling part, then, look for someone who used samshield in HOT weather, because even if it says its a cool helmet, doesn't necessary means it will be.
