Seat saver for Western saddle

I want to get one for friend of mine, so would love to hear some advices/opinions. I was thinking about getting something not very expensive and non-slip kinda.

Just a basic sheepskin seat cover is a great cushion and is definitely non-slip. You use a dog slicker grooming brush to brush up the fur between rides, to keep it "fluffy". My husband has a seat cover and a full saddle cover made of sheepskin. They're very nice to ride in!

Here's two stores with sheepskin and foam seat cushions/savers.

Good price on the foam seat cushions.

Any seat cover that has some thickness to it (and goes up the cantle) will change the size of the saddle a bit. They will usually shrink the seat by 1/3" to 3/4" depending on thickness and firmness.

Thanks, luvs! I've seen the cashel before and I'm curious is there any grip there at all? I was looking at this one: (not such a nasty color of course ) or this but I'm not positive how long they hold on.

I have not seen the Cashel one in person, so I can't really comment. The people that I have met online that have them, really like them though.

Neoprene is hot. I'm afraid that Abetta one would make your bum sweaty, lol. The one at Chicks might be better, since it has a better lining and sounds like the neoprene is perforated.

Thank you! I'll look into Cashel then. I myself have sheepskin one (english though) and I think it's very nice, but I can't really tell if it adds a grip or quite opposite (I mostly use it in cold weather to keep my butt warm lol!).

You could probably make a foam one if you are feeling particularly DIY'y lol. I'd buy some kind of foam from RONA or a Walmart, then get some fabric, cut it to fit over the part of the saddle I want, make a slip with the fabric, put foam inside, sew it up and then attach some leather ties or cheap clips to hold it on (can get that kind of stuff at tack stores, ebay or a walmart), or depending on how you make it you could put a saddle horn hole into it to really help secure it =) I could see you replacing some regular fabric with a faux wool from the inside of a cheap sweater too if you were after a fluffy seat.

Dunno your friend or how good of a friend [s]he is but if my best friend gave me a handmade seat saver it would be more dear to me and I could really appreciate the effort that went into it as opposed to a bought one, but that's just me =)
