seat size too small!

So I have been using my 17.5 wintec all purpose saddle. My parents bought it for me when I was 12 and now I'm 20. I took a year off of riding to really focus on school and now my saddle doesn't feel right. When I put my stirrups up to jump length my knees run into the block and push my lower leg back making it hard to keep my heels down and secure my position. I think its my long thighs that are the problem. I don't have a lot of pictures but do you guys see what I'm feeling here? If I bought a new saddle what size do you think I should get? 18.5? Or do you think the problem would be fixed if I just bought a jumping saddle with a more foreward seat in the same size?

We need to see pictures of you in the saddle, riding and standing still.

I'm having trouble with adding a photo. And right now I only have one of me riding so its going to be hard to tell. I tried uploading it. But I don't know if it worked. I'm still a "foal". Lol

You certainly do not look like someone who needs a 18.5" saddle.

You might need a longer flap if you have a long thigh. But your seat (unless that photo is very deceiving about your body size) most certainly should not need a saddle that big.

Yeah, I don't think my butts that big but its just my thighs kinda long. Do you guys think just switching to a saddle with a more foreward seat would help? Something like this?
(NOt like I can really afford a saddle that pretty and new but I'm just looking at the style.)

As apposed to the saddle I have right now, a wintec all purpose.

I would try to find a tack shop or online consignment shop that will let you try a saddle for a week or so. You may need an 18", depending on how tall you are and your rear end size. My daughter is only 5' 6" and my husband's 18" saddle isn't that big on her. Her friend's 17" is much too small for her hiney, lol. She wears a size 8 in pants and should be in a 17.5", but she's not done growing (she's only 11!).

A 17.5" with a flatter seat and a more forward flap might be fine, but you won't know until you try one. An 18" probably wouldn't be "too big" if you want to play it safe .

Thanks! I would go to a tack shop to get fitted but the nearest tack shop that has English tack is about 300 miles away. There used to be one in my hometown but it got flooded out 2 years ago and closed. :(

Like I said, find some online shops like Dover or Trumbull Mountain that will let you trial saddles. allows you to trial saddles as well.

If you measure from your knee to butt while seated with your knee at a 90 degree angle, that will give you a basic saddle size. 19"-21" is a 17, 21"-23" is a 17.5, etc. I think something like that forward flap would probably help. If you're eventing, it certainly can't hurt! Take a look at the new Pessoa Gen-X or Collegiate Convertable saddles. Eventers are really liking both and they're both reasonably priced.
