    Shipping?

    Does anyone know how to ship a saddle? I have to boo for it but who do I ship it through? I did an estimate on the UPS website an it said $226.00! I'm pretty sure that isn't right! Haha! Can anyone help me out?

    Where are you shipping it from and too?

    U-Haul has some Large boxes that you can use, cut them down to the smallest size so you can to keep the costs on shipping down, UPS charges more by box size than by weight

    The UPS Store may have the correct size Box also

    The main thing is to remember is anything over 108" total (circumference plus length), is where the charges will go crazy.....

    A Western Saddle in the "Correct Sized Box" should never cost more than 100.00 even from Florida to Washington State. Post Office about 80.00

    Post Office is another Choice, I shipped a Saddle from GA to Hawaii on USPS 2 Priority Mail for 115.00 last week.

    I always ship western saddles for 25-40$ if you go through the we site, make sure you check the box that says regular mail. When it gives you the shipping price, it always gives you the fast options, wich are way more expensive.

    I've had 3 saddles shipped over recent years-should run around $50, unless it's really heavy, or going a long way.

    I have recently had bad experiences shipping heavy items with the post office. I will use UPS from now on unless it fits in those 3 sizes of P.O. One price boxes.

    The only time I shipped a saddle, I shipped through FedEx Ground and it was ~$65. (English saddle in a box that was a bit large for it, but that's the box it came in & I didn't want to try and buy another box for it) At first I brought it to a FedEx location (one of the ones in the office store) and they quoted me something crazy like the quote you got, but when I went through their website it was much lower. Not sure if the person behind the counter didn't know what they were doing or what.

    Definitely put it into the smallest box you can without risking damaging it. If in doubt, pack it up and bring it to the post office, UPS Store, or wherever and have them help you out. They ship a lot of things and would probably know what's going on. Try to avoid the office store locations- they don't seem to get as much training/experience shipping unusually big or heavy things.

    Try USPS you can buy extra insurance if needed. I just sent a 17 1/2 English saddle for around $35
