Side pull Vs Hackamore

I'm looking into getting my mare either one of these, but wasn't sure which one. What is the main difference? We mostly barrel race but I'm looking to get her something for just trail riding as she acts like she hates her bit. Ever since I have bought her she chomps and bites the bit and grabs the side of the bit and just acts like she hates it. I tried switching the bit and got her teeth done but she acted the same. She neck reins and direct reins and she is super light on the bit, so I think I'm leaning more towards side pull. Any help would be appreciated

The sidepull has reins attached to the side of the bridle (hence the name), and normally is less severe than a mechanical hackamore. It looks like this (although can be made of other materials)

You can actually test and see how your mare responds to one by using a flat halter and attaching reins to the side buckles (that lay flat against her face) and that pretty much acts a side-pull. Mechanical hackamores are much more severe and should not be ridden in a tight contact, if you want something you can ride with a loose rein with and use very little contact a mechanical hackamore would work well. You can kinda compare the two with curbs and snaffles- the sidepull being the snaffle and the curb being the mechanical hackamore. The side-pull using more direct contact and the mechanical hackamore being leverage. A mechanical hackamore looks like this (very varying shank lengths)
