Default Sizing on barrel saddles

I am currently looking at 2 used barrel saddles online. One is a 14.5" billy cook, and the other is a 14.5" cactus charmayne james.

I ride in a 17" english saddle. The seat is a bit big but I have to accomidate my legs. I know that a 17" english is about the same as a 15" western. I've never ridden in a barrel saddle before, seeing as where I live it is nearly impossible to find any good western tack, so I was wondering how the seat sizes normally are in comparison to other saddles? I have heard that sometimes the cactus saddles run a little bigger, but I have no experience with billy cook. Do you think that the 14.5" saddles would be too small? Btw, I am 15, 117 lbs and about 5'5". Thanks!

Barrel saddles are supposed to be a little snug to help keep you in the saddle. I ride 16.5/17 in English, 15 in a regular Western saddle, and 14/14.5 in a barrel saddle.

BTW - I'd say go for the Billy Cook. Much better brand.

^Thank you. I really like the billy cook, I always thought they were such nice looking saddles. My only concern is how wide are the FQHB saddles really? She has a picture of the gullet view, but I am not sure if these saddles are made for wide horses with withers or no withers. Here's the pic:

My appy and QH mares have no withers at all and are table backed. Jw, if anyone has owned one before, how did it fit?

I'm not 100 percent sure, but I've always thought FQHB were 7". It may be 8" though. I'm not sure how it would fit your horse, but someone on here might know.

I would want to see a measurement of the billy cook. VERY rarely are Billy cooks FQHB, They have to custom made for that, I found that out when I was looking for a barrel saddle.

The Cook would be better if it's a Sulphur, OK made Billy Cook. It's a Simco/Longhorn Texas made BC, then the Cactus saddle is going to be much better in quality.

It was made in sulpher. The girl claims that it has a 7" gullet and FQHB but I will as for a photo of the gullet area.
