Ok so after some research and speaking with some folks on this forum I had decided to order a new Corriente saddle for my mare. My current saddle does not fit her well. I originally spoke with a wonderful young guy (one of the sons I believe) who was informative and helpful. When I called back a couple days later to order I spoke with a lady who was pretty much just all business asked what I wanted, I ordered it to all my specifications, she took my payment and said I would receive the saddle within 30 days. I had to ask for a receipt and she emailed me a handwritten note with my order info and an indication it had been paid in full. That was fine. Well 30 days was last week and it did not arrive so Monday I contacted them by email to inquire. They seemed a little confused and like they couldnt find the order but after some checking she did and she told me it would ship on Wednesday (today). This afternoon I get a phone call from Corriente telling me that they double check the orders just prior to boxing them for shipping and they noticed an error. Arpparently my saddle that I had ordered as a round skirt was built on a square skirt. UGH She tells me that they will have to rebuild the entire saddle but they will use a tree they already built so rather than another thirty days it should take approx. 3 weeks. She was not very concerned or apologetic IMO. I expressed that additional wait time is very inconvenient for me and would there be some sort of discount or anything based on the situation and she inormed me no they do not do any discounts and my choices are to rebuild and wait or cancel my order. I am NOT a happy camper right now. I honestly now have some reservations about doing business with a company that provides such poor customer service before I even have the product? Just a very matter of fact and uncaring attitude which is not a plus in the customer service world. I guess my question now is do I just suck it up and let it go and wait the additional time or should I say forget it and try and find a decent used saddle? Any input or opinions on this greatly appreciated....thanks!

I will say your experience with them sounds absoulutly opposite of ours. For one, we were not billed till the saddle was shipped. Even after we asked to pay for it upfront. It arrived early and exactly as we wanted it made. My wife spoke personally to the gal and the saddle builder. I honestly find what you're claiming hard to believe after how well our purchase went. Not to say your bad mouthing or lying, just that I couldn't be happier with the service or the saddle.
I was just saying the other day that they'll build my next saddle.
I seriously hope it works out for you. From our dealings they are good people and build a good saddle. We own 2.

Well part of the reason I decided to go with them is that I had heard stories just like yours. NO idea what has gone wrong here but I can assure you it is fact in my situation. I had zero problem paying for the saddle up front in full. Seemed reasonable to me. Why would they custom build a saddle for someone then get payment after the fact?? I also had no issue with it taking thirty days to put together but that's a pretty big screw up in my opinion as far as the skirt goes and then to act matter of fact and oh well take it or leave it REALLY leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I was super excited to get the saddle and have heard almost all good things about the quality which makes it a great deal but this has just thrown me for a loop. I'm trying to weigh letting my absolute irritation with the situation possibly make me act hastily and miss out on a good saddle. Just trying to get some more opinions etc...

I don't know either, I can't imagine a 180 in such short time. And yes, we were not billed until the saddle was finished. Though they had the billing info if we woulda tryied to back out.
But the money wasn't moved till the saddle was.
I'm sorry if you've had a bad experience, but I for one can not knock em one bit.
I just relizide I sound like a sales rep! Lmao! But I honestly like the saddle, the people and the overall experience of dealing with them.

Sorry to hear that has happened, strange that you both have completely different experiences often the case with complaints about companies, I assume they were owned by the same people when you both had dealings with them? I hadn't heard of the company until I saw it here and looked it up, looks like they make lots of saddles & seem to have some good testimonials.
Do you mind me asking how much you paid for the saddle? And if you decide to cancel your order do you know if they will give you all your money back?

If it's on a credit card, call the cc company. Cancel the sale. These people don't make the saddles, likely low paid workers in Mexico or Central America. Corrientes don't have good resale value. I wouldn't own one because the structure of the saddle and quality of hardware and leather is foremost with me.

Yes I believe it has always been the same owner for this company. I paid $685 for the saddle. That is a VERY good question. I need to get back to them this am to let them know what I want to do so I will be asking that first thing. I will update you once I know that answer.

I like my 4 corriente's ....AND they ARE built with QUALITY and hold up...or I wouldn't have just bought 2 more (I have had two since 2005 - one for riding/starting horses, and it's also my daughter's drill team saddle; and one that I roped thousands of cows in- I team rope about 2-4 times a week...). So, I don't agree with saddlebag on this one.

I did have one issue with my last team roper, they sent it with rough out stirrup leathers, I oredered smooth with barb wire trim....they sent me the proper ones in about 10 days -- they had to make them.

The company is still owned by the Baize'(sp?), so I don't know why you had the issues you did. It could be that the same lady took my order and yours(since mine was messed up a little as well, but my wife's was ordered at the same time and arrived as ordered).

All I know is that you can't buy a better saddle for the price.

I agree with ropinbiker. They actually do hold their value and are a decent saddle for that price range. And they can hold up to the abuse.

Mvinotime, if I was in your shoes I would call them back and ask to speak to someone else other than the gal you had been dealing with and re-explain the situation. See what they say then maybe base your desicion on how that conversation goes.
