Well today while I was riding, I got the awesome opportunity (not)to ride a horse that's infamous for bucking, rearing, and refusing jumps. I get to the 3rd jump of the line and go over....next thing i remember was me kneeling on my knees (don't even remember getting up onto them) and being really dizzy and my sholder throbing. Well, I landed on my head pretty hard.
I was wondering if I need a new helmet incase there's a dent on the inside or something? I fell on the same side of it as I did the previous time. Is it toast?
Yep, get a new helmet. What isn't apparent on the outside might be the deal breaker on the inside. When did you buy your last helmet? If it was less than 1-3 years ago, the manufacturer might have an incentive program in place and you could get your new helmet at a discounted rate. It is worth talking to someone about.
Thanks guys. It's a CO Hampton and I got it Christmas of '07. I'll see what their policy is.
My mom took me to the hostpital and my shoulder was fine, but I have to be on a 24 hour 'watch' (lame) because I hit my head.
Yes, I agree, time for a new helmet. Two head-impact falls is all I give mine. Thankfully, that hasn't happened in a LONG time (knock on wood), but it would occasionally when I used to jump. Now I prefer to keep at least 1-2 feet on the ground at all times, lol.
I explained this to my dad and he isn't going to buy me a new one. Apparently it's "fine" and that's what helmets are supposed to do. I than told him that they only work to protect your head after one fall when you hit your head hard. But apparently to him that means that I need a new one after everytime I fall off and he's not going to do that.
LOL... my old helmet took a ton of hits and should have been replaced but my dad was the same way. They are EXPENSIVE. I still have my old helmet and use it as a back-up for visitors. If you are going to ride at my place... you wear a helmet....
But I would definitely suggest getting a new helmet. Especially with a big bang to the head.
Is it true that the GR8 and GPA's are more "safe" than others because they're made out with carbon? It's tending to be a reoccurance of me falling on my head/face. :\
hmm idk if you need a new helmet or if you're going to get one...but i have a charles owen hampton for sale and i've never used it. just thought id make the offer
