Squeaky saddle & oil stains on suede?

How would yall fix a squeaky saddle? I have a new one and it squeaks really bad, it's so loud I can't hear over it. It's completely leather. I know you are supposed to oil it as soon as you get a new saddle, but I haven't yet. I know, I'm sort of a procrastinator. But, I also did not know what is the best oil to use? I don't want to use anything that will mess up the leather. So what would yall recommend?

Also, the first show I went to I laid my very oily breastcollar over my saddle and now I have two big oil stains on the suede seat. You can't see it when I am riding, but it would be nice if I could somehow get it off. Any suggestions?

One thing I've learned working with horses: You can FORCE a horse to do something on a tight rein and he might do what you ask or you can TEACH a horse to do something on a loose rein and he will do it willingly with his heart.

a little baby powder in the cracks and under the conchos will eliminate the squeaks.

You actually DO NOT want to oil a new saddle. A new saddle is already well conditioned. You don't want to add oil until the saddle has had some use and is starting to dry out. Too much oil actually causes breakdown of the leather and the stitching... and makes for very oily riders.

As for removing oil stains .. unfortunately they're pretty much permanent. And to get rid of the squeak, take a look here:

When you do decide to oil your saddle, my personal favorite is Neatsfoot harness oil. Make sure it's the pure stuff, not the compound and don't oil the top of the leather, only oil the underside where it is still roughout. I personally don't think that oiling a saddle will really do that much damage so long as you don't use too much oil or do it too often.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/
