Stiff Spur Straps

I got new spur straps, and the are EXTREMELY stiff. I've been working on them for 20 minutes at least, and they're not changing at all. I need them for a barrel race tonight, so this is extremely annoying! Any helpful hints would be GREATLY appreciated!

Stiff as in you can't get them over your buttons on your spurs? I ve soaked them in water for a little while then slid them on, then stuck them on my boots while they dry. After they dry you can oil them good.

Yeah, I can't get them over the buttoms for nothing. They're hair on hide over leather, so I don't really want to get them wet. Lol

Water wont hurt them. I take my cowhide rugs outside and hose them off and I worked with a gal that had hair on chinks, they got rained on quite a bit working..LOL...Hell- cows stand out in the rain all the time!

Lol good point! They're lime green zebra print, and the color is rubbing off on my fingers, so I don't know what water would do...

Oh Yep the dye might come out...have you tried using needle nose pliers and a screw driver to force them on?

I tired using a screw driver to stretch out the leather a little, but when I took it out it just went back to normal.

Oh geez... I have the same problem. That's why I have hubby make mine. I have a narrow foot and wear my spurs up resting on my heel rather than dragging down on the ground.
