Stirrup Color?

So I purchased a $40 pair of Perri's stirrups. They are jointed, and they are white. I was wondering if it would be possible to paint them black? Would it ruin the metal or rubber? I could make it look nice with some painters tape covering the parts I don't want to get paint on. I was just wondering if this is an okay idea? I don't want to have white stirrups, and I don't want to go and buy a new pair. I was in desperate need of new stirrups, and these were what were in my tack store! Thank you!
