Oxbow stirrups are the ones that bow out on the sides some are a basic round type like those in the photo above. Some are flat on the bottom like these

Rather than the straight sided "bell" stirrup

There is your useless western tack information of the day LOL

Thank you for the input everyone! I just received my new stirrups today from 123tack.com! I decided on the composite reflex stirrups CJ recommended. I borrowed a friend's and have ridden in them several times. Hasta la vista ankle pain!

Vida, does the bow of the oxbow make a big difference when compared to the bell?
