Synthetic Saddles?

Howdy! I've been looking into buying my own saddle! I only have a pony and I don't have much money because I am in high school and can't really have a job right now, due to school an trying to pass. What is your take on synthetic western saddles? I am not going to be doing any hard riding just leisure trail riding in the summer. Plus the synthetic western saddles are lighter than most. I would just like your ideas and opinion on these saddles. Thanks!!

For the money, Abetta's hold up well.

You can find a good used one from 100.00 to 150.00 many times

Some of the more fancy models maybe 150.00 to 175.00 ussed


Fabtron's and Bighorn's are good, but more expensive

At first I wanted a nice leather saddle. That was before I was constantly helping everyone tack up their horses I finally settled on a Big Horn endurance saddle that I bought on ebay and it was used. I love that saddle, its part leather part cordura and it's light enough for me to tack up. My sister bought one as well and she loves it too.

Okay I won't get any Ebay Synthetic Saddles! I may go to the local tack auction to see if they have saddles and see what they would go for.

I have no problem what so ever with synthetic saddles: they are light and easy to maintain (if you want to show is another story though, then I'd prefer leather). Abetta, Fabtron and Big Horn are on my list of decent synthetic saddles (Abetta is cheaper and usually easier to find, but Fabtron and BH felt more comfy when I tried them).

Be careful with eBay and local tack auction. Most synthetics I've seen there was junk. Moreover some had broken tree (a BIGGEST no-no to look for!). You better go with the name one (like several of us mentioned) than no-name (that is usually a junk and a bad fit for the horse).

I have a Wintec western style. It's equileather so it looks almost like real leather but much softer. I bought it from Chicks $300 new. It has been very durable, even had a horse go down on it and not even a scratch (on the saddle, anyway.I was a different story). When it gets dirty,I literally just hose it off and it looks new! I was very hesitant to get a synthetic saddle but I wouldn't trade it for anything now for general trail riding
