Tacking up with a running martingale

This is a very basic question, but I'm worried I've been doing it wrong. I ride a horse with a running martingale, and I was wondering, when tacking up with a martingale is it the same as normal, saddle first and then bridle, or is it bridle first? I need to be certain because I'm really worried I've been doing it wrong. Thanks in advance!

Always saddle first.

I always do bridle first, because the girth needs to be looped through the martingale girth strap. If you do saddle first, then you need to undo the girth again so thread it through the martingale loop.

I put the saddle on my horses back, clip the breastplate part of my running to the saddle, do up my girth with the loop and all, and then bridle and then clip on the actual martingale piece.

Is it a matter of opinion? Everyone's said something different so far! I see what you mean shropshirerosie it's a pain to undo the girth after just doing it up.

I put a gator clip or a snap on mine since I have dees on my cinches. I have one snaffle setup specifically for a running martingale so I leave my right rein in the ring. After I saddle, I take the halter off put the reins and collar over the head and hang it up behind his poll so I have plenty of slack to bridle or grab a hold if the horse decides to move off, bridle, slide the the reins and collar of the martingale into position at the base of the neck. Take hold of the left rein(left out of ring of the
Martingale) clip my strap to my dee on my cinch. Also, I take a saddle sting and tie it to the collar to hold it into postion....if you ever had a horse bog his head to buck and have the collar slip down his neck then stick a foot through it, you know it is a helluva wreck! LOL. Then you have your left rein out to leqd your horse and right rein already to go....just rember to your left rein through the ring before mounting :)

In no way do I dispute anything just said here, and I'm sure it all makes sense, but I just wanted to say that I did not understand a single word of this! Two nations separated by a common language....!

Ok, I am going to attempt the cross the language or perhaps the discipline barrier with the pictures to make myself clear..LOL...

Pic. 1> collar and right rein on neck of horse after being saddled, left rein dropped on ground(my horses ground tie) or draped over left arm.
Pic 2>strap clipped to cinch(cinch is not cinched tightly so it is off center at this point)
Pic 3>shows front left saddle string tied to the collar to keep it from sliding down horses neck if he should put down his head for any reason, tripping, bucking or crossing a creek.
Pic 4>horse tacked right before mounting, left rein left out of martingale ring to allow leading by rein without, as I call, "setting the parking brake". If you have tried to lead a horse by using the reins through the rings to lead using pressure it actually has the adverse effect.

And that concludes how I bridle a horse with western tack, split reins and running martingale.
