Tex Tan Hereford Saddles

What are your opinions of Tex Tan Hereford saddles? I've found a few of them selling in the $300 and under range, so what do you think of them? Looking at newer ones, the Hereford distinction doesn't seem to be present... was this part of the name in older saddles? Or does it distinguish a certain style of saddle? Generally speaking, what are they worth if they are in good condition?

Hm, I've also found a couple of tex tan brahmas. Apparently their saddles are named after cattle?

I can't tell you value of a "used" saddle but here is a link to "new" saddles by Tex Tan, Billy Cook, and Simco names among many others.
For what I see some "used" saddles being priced at, a few more $$ and you are sitting on a new saddle.
I do remember reading that there are different "addresses" and those addresses dictate quality, pricing and when they were made. I do not know if this is true or not...
I've seen saddles with theses names costing much more, but like many lines of goods, there are different levels of embellishments that can also make prices very different....
Here is that link....once you get here click on western saddles then the type of activity you are searching for use to do {cutting, roping, reining, show, pleasure, etc..}

Eh, I don't really have a few hundred dollars more wiggle room. I don't see anything on Chicks for under $500 that I would consider quality-wise, so I have to go with used or stick with what I have. Which isn't bad... but I still lust over the Circle Y that I passed on earlier in the year because the seat was far too large. I'd really love to get a Circle Y equitation saddle similar to it in a 15", so while looking the Tex Tans caught my eye.

.

Tex-Tan are high production Saddles, a good value for the money.

If you find one built before 2001 they are much better than the new ones, so 300.00 for an older one in decent shape is a good deal.

Duck....don't know where you live but....

Craigslist in Florida.... Ocala, Orlando, Lakeland, Tampa, all recently had Circle "Y" saddles in those seat sizes for very reasonable prices. SOme of the other areas too...
Some of the pictures looked like awesome saddles in great condition.
Look under "Farm & Garden" section...

Happy shopping.

My saddle is a textan. I absolutely love it. VERY comfortable. I think I paid 2800 if I remember right. I am looking at the cw wiley customs right now, they are really comfy but out of my price range for now...

Unfortunately, I've been watching craigslist for a long time now and nothing seems to be coming up in my area :/ I don't think I've seen a Circle Y in any sort of condition (good or otherwise) for less than $400 with the exception of the too large one that I tried earlier in the year :( Our craigslist doesn't have a multitude of saddles, and the decent ones all seem to have a high price, even when used. All of the lower priced ones seem to be cruddy brands or no brands, though I totally expect that when you're looking with a low price range!!

I've got one that was made in the late 70's or early 80's. Still a great, comfortable saddle for me.

I used to ride in my trainers Tex Tan and I loved it! If I found one in good shape here for $300 I'd absolutely scrounge up some dough to buy it.
