I'm being given an off the track standardbred gelding who has extremely high withers, and i noticed that Thorowgood carries a dressage saddle especially made for horses with high withers.
Anyone have one of these saddles?
Are they good or not so good?
Thorowgoods are nice as far as synthetics go. They are made in England and I have heard only good things about them. I think Dover has some test ride saddles. You might want to demo one before taking the plunge ;-).
If you look at other saddles, look for saddle with a cut back pommel. That way you can fit the saddle to his back and there will be enough room for his high withers. The saddle should go BEHIND the horse's shoulder blades, to allow freedom of movement in the front end.
