Are you sure about the seat size? I mean, I am much bigger than you, yet, a 16 inch, or 16.5 is best for me. It's not just whether or not one has "back" or not. It's also about the length of your femur bone.
I can't remember seeing a photo of you, but a 17 or 18 inch western saddle is one I would think a large man more suited for.
I have long legs, Tiny. I'm 5'7" with a 32" inseam (and depending in the fit of the pants, even a 32" inseam can be a tad short). I've ridden in my best friend's 16" Circle Y Park and Trail and it felt snug (and I was ~60lbs lighter then). I have a pic on my phone of me in a 16" saddle that belonged to another friend and it looks too small (at least to me). Wish I could figure out how to post it. Posted via Mobile Device
You know, you may be right. Just remeasured my Stubben that fits me perfectly as I sit (on my couch) right now, and it's an 18.5". Isn't it the general rule that western saddles measure 2" smaller than English? Which would make my ideal western saddle size 16.5". Posted via Mobile Device
Alright, I went and sat in a 17" Tex Tan western endurance saddle at one of my local consignment shops. It fit better than any other saddle I've sat it. I also emailed the people selling the Timber Ridge saddle in my previous post...they're more than willing to let me come pick up the saddle if I end up winning the auction. So far, there's two days left in the auction and absolutely no bids. Posted via Mobile Device
