Yes you will need a good western pad for use with the treeless. I recomend you get one with some spine clearence built in! Some horses do get sore from the constant pressure on their spines and need a little relief. For now a nice thick felt pad will do! You will need a helper to measure for a girth as well as a flexible tapemeasure! Place the saddle and pad on your horse as you would if you were going for a ride.

Next have your helper hold one end of the tapemeasure just about midway up the horses side between the elbow and bottom of saddle. thak the other end and at about the same location on the other side of the horse read the measurement in inches! if it reads 33" get a 32" Ect! A little bit smaller is better than a little too big! Make sure that the rings in the center of the cinch are centered between the fore legs! You will also need a western off billet and a latigo. If you choose to use nylon in your rigging make sure that you have leather on the other side ( nylon latigo leather off billet or vice versa!) Its a safety issue! Nylon dosent break easily!
