Trooper Saddles?

Greetings,

I'm considering getting a trooper style saddle and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them.

Primarily I ride in mountainous areas and so am looking for a rig that will provide security as well as comfort.

I don't know about the "modern" trooper saddles, but my Dad used an old McLellan saddle when he was in military school (in the early 1920's!) and said they were miserably uncomfortable. Of course, that was back when a saddle was basically one size fits all... :)

The old military saddle were/ are among the worst for rider comfort but among for comfort of the horse.

Are you talking about a trooper saddle or a cavalry saddle? I've read good stuff about trooper saddles and read that cavalry saddles are uncomfortable. I'm thinking of getting a trooper saddle.

Cavarly saddle or McClellan saddle was the saddle I was talking about. If that is not the trooper saddle than what is?

Have you seen this kind of saddle before?
