Trooper Saddles?

Can anyone give me some info on this type of saddle, if you please? I hear they are used in bird dogs exhibits, but I don't real know what that is either. Are they only good for that?

I always assumed they were used by mounted police, but I can see them being used for field work too. I always wanted to try one they look really comfy. Tucker makes one I really like but if I bought another saddle my husband would kill me
