Trying to find a english saddle

My mares ride in FQHB western saddles. I have always ridden hunters and am looking at finding a cc saddle for them. What tree size should I be looking for? Wide trees just don't look wide enough, but are they really? I know that a regular tree is to small for them since my gelding's saddle doesn't fit, but do I need to look at wide tree or extra wide?

Thanks!

Wide for one brand = extra wide for other brand = medium for some other brand, etc. I run into it recently when I was in hunt for dressage saddle. You can't tell till you try couple saddles on your horse.

Bringing wither tracings to your local tack shop can really help though!

Either take or send whither tracings to a shop and get some qualified advice. What "looks" OK may be totally wrong. It's not just the whither width that needs to fit, but the tree shape from front to back needs to follow your horses back shape and the panels need to be the correct shape for your horse so as not to create rubs, sores, and longer lasting muscle problems.
