unknown old saddles

Hi,

I've spotted these two old saddles for sale here in Italy, they have no brand on them, maybe anyone knows them?

No, I don't know who made them. But they look like they are from the 1940s or maybe early 1950s.

I have finally bought the older saddle! It's very used but still in good conditions apart for a 1" crack on the front left jockey

There's no makers marking on this saddle
It has a 7" gullet and 16" seat, the strings are structural and go all the way to the fleece underneath, the tree is bullhide wrapped and is very heavy.
The 3" stirrup leathers have Blevins buckles and I don't think they're original

Hopefully it will fit decently on my mule...

Enjoy the pics!

Jimmy,

Nice Saddle

The little triangle like stamp on the fender in your last pic looks very much like the Tex-Tan Hereford Logo, just the name has been rubbed off.

.

May all your Trails be happy and safe ones

The triangular stamp is empty, and has no sign of rubbing/scratching, looks like it never ever had anything stamped into it.

BTW, the saddle has an ugly coat of sticky, smelly, shiny gunk, I think it's pig grease as many Italian riders still use it in place of proper leather conditioners as it can obtained more or less for free.
What's the best way to clean it up before applying a proper leather conditioner?
