Used Boots?

So I have been using the same pair of tall dress boots for 6-7 years and they have finally come to see the end of their life. The zippers in the back and worn so much they no longer hold. It is rather difficult to ride with your boots trying to slip off, let me tell you! I thought I'd be quite clever and take them to a shoe repair shop to get the zippers replaced and save a few hundred buying new boots. However after 5 days in the shop, they call me and tell me they cannot replace them. So looks like I'm going to have to buy new boots after all.

Is there somewhere to "recycle" boots? They basically cannot be used due to the zipper. What do you all do with old boots that can't be worn or given away? It feels odd to just throw them out.

Also, what does everyone recommend as a new pair of boots? The place I bought these no longer carries the brand. (Treadstone). And I know that it is cheaper to by short boots and get some half chaps to ride in, but I don't feel comfortable riding in them. I've tried before and I enjoy riding in tall boots. So I'm def going to be buying a new pair.

In the meantime I'm going to either stay bareback and ride in my old western pair, or just look silly and ride English in western boots, as some of you know from my other thread haha.
