used tack sales

I am trying to put together a used tack sale for my 4h club as a fund-raiser. And I was wondering if anyone had tips as to where I could start with the planning?

I would try to do it in conjunction with a horse show or a public event (such as an open house). That way there will be people there and you can even try to get the farm to advertise for you, maybe in their flyer stating there will be a tack sale on this show date...

Hi!
Our miniature horse club does a tack swap/sale each year. Tack for ALL sizes of horses.
We advertise in our local free paper, The Mountain Trader.
To get additional "sellers", we just charged $10 a table, as well as to get people there to buy.
We also have a bake sale there to help build up club funds...
Oh, and we also posted fliers at local tack and feed supply stores as well.

We chose a location that gets great drive by traffic. Hang our big club banner out to be seen.
As well we have some minis out front for people to visit with. That really gets a lot of people driving by to stop to see what is going on. Some times we will even hook a mini up and drive them around out side...

Our first year was incredible! And each year gets better.
That is great considering the small area we live in.

Was that the kind of info you were looking for?
Hope that gives you some ideas any way.

We have a local used tack sale.
The tack store itself runs it. It takes items on commision, then put them out by category at the sale. Anything that sells, they take 25%, and pay the owner of the tack the remainder. I don't know how much they advertise, but they do send out cards to all their regular customers, and I'm sure I've seen their ad for it in a horse magazine once or twice!
Ask if you have any more questions.
